Mark of the Ninja Remastered is a 2D game so not the same open-world like the aforementioned Hitman, but it does give you free rein to some degree on how to approach the level. Like another well-known stealth game, Hitman, there are multiple ways to approach the level. And to hide his weapons that I kill people with.

That’s why he wears a black suit to cover up. He’s pretty easy to spot though as he is covered in a mystic tattoo – the mark of the ninja – that gives him power, slightly paranoid, good with numbers and also make him stand out like a horse in a wetsuit. You don’t have a name because if it was disclosed and people found out that you play as an insurance broker named Colin, 1) it doesn’t sound as dynamic (sorry, Colin) and 2) if you did actually know Colin’s name, he would kill you. The plot is simples: you’re a ninja and you implement stealth to overthrow the baddies. But expect a fight and your ninja isn’t exactly a tank. Alternatively, if you’re a knucklehead, you could go through them. From throwing a ninja star at a light or unleashing a monkey playing the tambourine (that doesn’t exist), you can distract your would-be-killers and then sneak under, over or around them. The ninja has an arsenal of trickery up their sleeves that can cause a distraction. There aren’t any alarms you’ll trigger off going through the lit-up areas but it will make you visible and in reality, you don’t want to be seen.

An ickle bit like Serial Cleaner, methinks. You navigate your ninja through the darkness, avoiding the sight of the guards and their guard dogs.

Focusing on their stealth abilities, Mark of the Ninja Remastered means that you need to hide in the shadows and, ideally, get through each stage without being seen. However, that wasn’t their primary goal as they were masters of stealth, espionage and good at watercolours.

The controls are great, the difficulty quite naturally progresses at the right pace, it looks good and best of all – I‘m a ninja. While I can put it down, I’d happily play-through this if I have a few hours spare. Cross back over to the middle using your grappling hook, and jump up into the small overhead room to finally grab the scroll. Is Mark of the Ninja Remastered any good? Hell yeah, it is.Cross the room at that level and flip the switch in the top alcove along the room’s left side, which eliminates the last overhead laser.Doing so eliminates the lower of the two lasers at the top of the chamber. Grapple to the upper left and then right into that alcove and flip that switch also.Grapple directly to the right and flip the switch in the middle of the three alcoves positioned near one another on that side of the room, which eliminates an overhead laser.Grapple toward the upper left, and then hop to the alcove and interact with the switch located in that space to disable a second power supply.Flip that switch to eliminate the nearby beam.Follow the grapple points down and toward the right, then ascend to the alcove along the right side that is located just below and to the right of a horizontal beam.Grapple back down to the lower left and press the switch in that alcove again, restoring the overhead laser you disabled a moment ago but also eliminating the laser below you.You can use this chandelier to easily complete this seal’s objective. In the large room where you find the fifth gas vent, as outlined above, there is a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling. If you were in time, you will disable the beam and then you can open the final vent at your leisure to claim the seal. You need to do this quickly, before the laser beam ascends and fries you. Quickly grapple right and then toss a dart at the overhead fuse box. Watch for it to drop, then grapple to the left of two grapple points. Roll through the opening along that room’s lower left side, descend through the ductwork, and emerge at the upper left side of a room with a horizontal laser beam that moves up and down. Ascend the shaft’s left side, passing two vents before entering a third that leads into a small, square room. Then pass through the opening to the left to return to the vertical elevator shaft. Head left from where you opened the fifth vent, and destroy the fuse box.
